Cypress River Celebrates 125th on August 6-8, 2010

In the 1931 book, "Reminiscences Of My Pioneering Experiences in Twp 7, Range 12, Cypress River Locality During the Winter of 1879 – 80”, writer Robert Little describes the trials and tribulations of homesteading in "Manitoba's western frontier". Settlers from the east travelled by train, steam ship and Red River carts; crossed rivers, sloughs, bogs and swamps, and encountered mosquitoes, coyotes and blizzards. But many persevered, and soon the little community of Littleton consisted of homes and businesses (click to read Robert Little's book: http://www.cypressriver.ca/little_brothers.htm ).

Littleton was located near the bank of the valley, and as the railway progressed west, it "missed Littleton by a mile". And so in 1885, the community relocated near the railway track, a couple of miles to the southwest and was re-named Cypress River.

2010 marks 125 years since those pioneers gathered to form a community. It's been 25 years since the Cypress River Centennial, and time to acknowledge another milestone - time for a celebration.

“Come back Home” for a weekend of fun and activities in Cypress River as we celebrate our 125th birthday!
